Barking up the wrong tree

We met our neighbours whilst walking this morning. They were out checking on the progress on tapping their maple trees. Most maple syrup comes from Eastern Canada and until recently I didn't even know you could tap the broad leaf maples we have here in Western Canada. There are a few small producers here on our little island but Quebec hasn't really got any competition as yet.

Unfortunately we don't have any mature maples on our property so we will not be enjoying our own syrup anytime soon. 

This isn't a maple so we are barking up the wrong tree!
