Tonight, tonight~

This evening I went to a Piano Ensemble concert with Xinying, a secondary school friend of mine. I realised it's my very first too! Usually I'm more into plays and musicals, but since Shihui was going to be performing, I thought I'd go and support her ^_^

We sat at row K, seats 14 and 15, which placed us at a very good position from which we saw the whole stage clearly. Two grand pianos were positioned in the centre, facing each other, as if they were two connected jigsaw pieces. Then it began. For the first piece, four people came on stage, and my first thought was that all four of them will be playing together, two each on one piano. It was when they sat down and started, did I realise that two of them were 'page turners' (I'm not even sure if this is a valid term!), who helped their counterparts turn the pages of the score book as they play without interruption. heh, silly me!

While I do appreciate most music, I admit I'm not a musically-inclined person myself. Heck, I can't even read the notes of a musical score sheet to save my life! Please do forgive me if I am unable to tell you the exact details of the piece, or describe how it was like! The first half of the concert didn't sink in too well with me... the second half after the interval, however, was much more enjoyable :)

Shihui's piece was based on an old Russian folklore about a witch named Baba Yaga. At times, one can really imagine a scene where a chase of some sort was going on, and it felt like a soundtrack of some thriller movie too! haha.. It was interesting to see how Shihui and a few others play the fast sections of their piece, their fingers were going at such high speed and intensity, they were like magic! I also felt that Shihui and her piano partner had rather good chemistry playing together too.

I found it amazing to watch them on the piano, they really seemed to be in their own element. Something which perhaps, I can never understand enough of, and remain a mere audience by the side..
