Mysterious Cities of Gold

Those of a certain age will instantly recognise this epic cartoon!

My husband got it in a sale on Amazon and it has divided our house with him complaining that the plot is too slow (they don't even reach Peru until episode 8) and me absolutely loving it. So I am continuing to watch and just updating him on what happens every so often.

But the animation is beautiful, the incidental music is hypnotic. Add to that all the weirdness such as a sea of golden butterflies or cliffs that morph into huge ship-eating monsters. Then all the fabulous technology such as a ship that sails under solar power and temples that collapse when a certain sequence of blocks is moved. And I haven't even reached the bit with the  golden condor yet! And there is that memorable theme tune. If you want a blast from the past (or to see what the fuss is about) here it is on Youtube.

They don't make them like that any more. Although apparently there is a new series??
