Ice mystery

These circular patterns in the ice have formed on the frozen Codale Tarn above Easedale.  The term 'pancake ice' came to mind, but after reading about how and when this is formed and its structure, I reckon these patterns are not pancake ice.

So what has caused this?  I'd love to hear some theories.
