Sometimes, it works!  What I have been doing today is sort of finding the homeopathic concentration of washing up liquid.  This instrument measures surface tension of liquids by image analysis and a bit of maths, and when I plotted my numbers (the overlaid graph) they followed the trend that they are supposed to.  This was highly surprising.
