The Second Floor
My journey to work is a drive into an area where people generally do not have money. Its often a transitional area, full of the latest immigrant group. My mother talks about it being a home to the Jewish immigrants in the early fifties; in the last ten years I've seen the population change through at least four different groups, with changes to the languages of shop signs. It leaves a vibrancy, with local shops for at least four cultures. This is one of the buildings as you approach. Many of the buildings in this part are cheap hotels, this one is the top part of a shop for home improvements. It seems ironic that the upper floors look in need of a bit of improving...
