The last big ditch dig
Finished the rest of the hole I started with the dual bridges blipped a few days ago. This blip follows the channel or canyon to the edge of the train board. I built the wooded trestle a few years ago for my last layout. Model railroaders love these word trestles and many have one on their layouts. This was a Campbell kit consisting of many lengths of raw wood and timber. I cut each piece to size, stained them, and glued the trestle together. Much fun. The little stands with red barrels on them are for the train crew to put out a fire that the locomotive sparks might start.
This trestle leads away from a small town I am naming Craig (I think). It has a coal mine, some retail, and housing for miners. The trestle leads away from the town and connects it with a far away smaller town where there is a logging operation. I won't be modeling that operation or town, but can place log cars on this track as if they were dropped off by a local train from that town. Then my railroad will take the log cars to a nearby town (of Rifle) where there will be a very large lumber mill - yet to be built. That will be a N Scale Architect kit on the shelf to be built (http://thenarch.com/products/long-valley-lumber-n).
As I look at the blip I will be widening the canyon above the trestle - it is just too narrow.
A train has to have a reason to exist huh.
