Take the next right. Turn right.
Do you remember the days of maps? When you looked at a world in 2D and planned a route from a to b.
Then someone clever invented sat nav, and all at once your sense of location went bye-byes. You responded automagically to a disembodied voice, which told you how to get to somewhere you knew very well, somewhere you knew the route to. And all of a sudden you didn't know your way at all, and followed blindly the instruction to go left, right and continue across the roundabout (take the second exit)...
Then, one fine day, you hear the words, "take the next right". But the next right doesn't look right at all. It's certainly the right turn you are supposed to take, but it's muddy, and half grassed over, and half under water... And suddenly you think, I'll pass.
The sat nav lady gets tetchy. "Turn around when possible" she says, firmly and with a little disdain in her voice. You don't, and she eventually capitulates and admits to "recalculating route". But you know inside she's steamingly angry and planning such an interesting route next week, when it will be even more important not to get lost.
It's a bad dream, and I have it all too frequently.
