Chapel Green
The closing of the old church split the parish irreparably. The priests said it was unsafe for mass to be held there and a new church must be built....but bingo sessions would be ok!!!!!!!
There were those who believed it could and should be saved....and they persevered by holding a sit in for a number of years until the local council took it over and opened it as a community hall and later this magnificent reuse of a splendid old building......as a wonderful library with 20,000 books, 5,000 audio visuals, a painting lending library, meeting room, exhibition area and a monument to a blending of past and present....
My friend, Charlie McGettigan, wrote this song ( Feet Of A Dancer) before he tragically lost his son Shane, aged just twenty one to a scaffolding accident in 1998 while Shane worked in Quincy, Mass., U.S.A. It reminds me always of Shane... It reminds me also of friends who need help.... just saying
