The Return of the Dragon

To Historic 25th Street in Ogden. The building it is attached to (next to the yarn shop on 25th Street) was built around 1900. It housed various occupants for several years, and in the 1930's the Star Noodle Parlor moved in and had this sign made by Young Electric Sign Company of Ogden. Star Noodle was in business until the 1990's. After they closed, the sign was taken down and the building fell into disrepair. New owners purchased the building in 2008, but due to the turndown of the economy, were unable to do anything with it. About four months ago, with the economy on the upswing, they started renovating the building. The sign was discovered in a warehouse, in very poor condition and badly in need of repair. It was such an iconic part of Ogden that they set about to have it renovated. YESCO (Young Electric Sign COmpany) who built the sign agreed to do the restoration. They said it has been overhauled seven times. They took it down to the original and repainted and rewired it and reworked all the neon in it. They said it was one of the most complex signs that they ever made and were honored to restore it. It has about 37 transformers in it that run the neon. It was mounted back on the building a couple of weeks ago and tonight was the official lighting ceremony. So, after almost 20 years of being dark, it is now glowing again in all its glory.

I vividly remember it, but parts of the neon were burned out, so this is the first time I have seen it the way it should be.

The building is also being restored to its original state, and will house a new restaurant and several offices. The building qualifies for historic status, but not the sign, since it is not old enough.
