Open Day at the Knox Church

Today the Knox Church celebrated their reopening following earthquake rebuild and restoration of the building. From 1.30pm to 4.30pm you could go and see first-hand the wonderful church that has been created from a clever amalgamation of the old with the new and a fine combination of great design and great workmanship.

Knox’s Minister, Rev. Dr Matthew Jack, gave three addresses (2:00pm, 3:00pm and 4:00pm) about the interior of the new church and how it serves church’s ideals. The Knox Church organist, Daniel Cooper, presented a number of musical pieces throughout the afternoon on the newly restored organ. I sat in on the first talk and found it very interesting. The organ sound fantastic and it was lovely hearing the singing.

One thing I noticed today that I never noticed on Christmas eve ... is that the floor has a slight slopping to it, to give people a better view. When the organ fall in the earthquake it damaged the Alter and you can see the marks it left behind. That is what everyone was looking at in the shot Middle Left.

The Cross in the Middle shot is what they managed to save from the original building and they have it on display. A lot of people where there and it was wonderful hearing about the history of the building and the all about the rebuild.

After that I walked down Victoria Street and seeing it was such a lovely day I walked into the city to catch up on happenings. The trams had their first run on the new tracks this morning and now pass by the ReStart Mall and down High Street. I was talking to one of the tram drivers I know and he said it was going to really great to be able travel more of the city from next Thursday.

Here is more about the Knox Church open day.
