Steam over Shap.
Having seen some of Derwent Lass' shots of steam trains on the west coast main line we decided we should have a go too. Fortunately the guests this week don't arrive until Sunday leaving us a free to indulge ourselves.
We had heard Scout Green was a good vantage point so we made our way there. I have to admit to being staggered at the number of cars assemble out in the middle of nowhere to watch a train go past. We bumped into Derwent Lass and R and had a good "catch up" as it is about a year since we last met.
So here is the Duchess of Sutherland running under steam as she approaches Shap summit on her way from London hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express. She would return down the Settle to Carlisle line giving those with enough spare time a second change to see her.
For anyone interested the Duches of Sutherland is aPrincess Coronation Class locomotive number 46233. She was built in 1938 and is now in Brunswick Green Livery of BR in the early 50s. At least that is what Wiki says.
