Alcatraz and all that jazz!

I'm in San Francisco!

It's my first time in this city and I'm having a blast so far. Ostensibly, I'm here for work (a conference) but I took an extra day to do some touristy things. For instance, I went up the Coit Tower to take this shot of the famous prison island ALCATRAZ. If you haven't already seen the silly Eddie Izzard take on this, check it out here.

The part of the SPIE Photonics West conference that I'm going to (BiOS) begins tomorrow at 8.15 a.m. Tomorrow is also my birthday. Tonight there will be wine. I wonder how awake I'll be at the plenary talks!

My talk isn't until Tuesday so I can chillax to the max until then. I'm sure I'll be a bit nervous on the day!
