Monarch caterpiller

Three trees are now stripped of their leaves, forty caterpillars are now scattered about the garden looking for a place to transform into chrysalis and then emerge as butterflies. Hopefully the swan plants will recover enough to feed the next batch of caterpillars in the mean time . The life cyle for monarchs is this.  Last years butterflies that have wintered over are the egg layers now, they then die. The caterpillars we have now are the middle lot they will hatch and fly around and lay their eggs, the offspring of this laying are the butterflies that will start off the cycle again next year.
