Clifton from Leigh Woods
A different walk today, back into my home city of Bristol, to walk in Leigh Woods. A wide woodland abutting the River Avon as she gently saunters down the gorge, it's laid out with pedestrian and mountain bike routes; sometimes there is confusion as to which one is on!
Looking back from the woods toward Bristol, you get the smashing view of Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge. 150 years old and grade I listed, it's 100m down to the water, although significant recent additions to the side rails prevent most free fall exploration nowadays.
It's perhaps a shame the encroaching coppice is occluding the better view there once was. Still, trees is trees, eh. To the left is the Clifton Observatory, with the camera obscura on the surface, and the yellow barriered viewpoint at Ghyston's Cave below.
