Square

This is a barn quilt on the side of the local heritage museum. It's quite big, 8 feet by 8 feet, and was designed and completed by the university art students. I photographed it through the branches and without them; I preferred the branches, even though it makes the design harder to understand.

I was not familiar with barn quilts until recently. Apparently, like their fabric cousins, they abstract and celebrate local culture and history. Unlike their fabric cousins, they are made of materials which allow them to be displayed outdoor as public art. 

Here is the artists statement:
"Our barn quilt design was inspired by the drill field at Mississippi State University and its surrounding buildings at the heart of campus. Since the forms in our design were complex, we decided to use the primary colors and their tints to simplify our barn quilt and provide immediate visual impact."
