Buddha's Hand & Chả Cá
I kept seeing these strange fruit around Hanoi. I'd never seen them before so I looked them up and found out they're known as Buddha's Hand due to their weird fingers. I asked a local whether they taste good and he told me they're not for eating but used for when someone dies, presumably for decoration.
In the evening I went to a famous restaurant to try a local speciality of Chả Cá, fish in turmeric cooked with dill on your table and then served with noodles and a few other things. It was one of the best meals I've had in Vietnam but then I'm a sucker for fish and dill (Gravlax is one of my favourite things). It was a bit more expensive ($6) but worth every penny.
