Quarry Bank Mill
Quarry Bank is a cotton mill built in 1784 and powered by Europe's most powerful working waterwheel (according to their website).
The Apprentice House housed pauper children who worked in the mill. The National Trust has re-created the conditions under which the children would have lived and worked. They also provide guided tours for schools where the children can dress up.
I arrived just as the children were coming out of the changing rooms in their 19th Century costumes - hence the 2 figures in the photo.
