A morning working out long term strategy for the institution, so lots of talking with the governing body....then a quick meeting about the estates plans we're juggling at the moment before meeting candidates who'll be interviewed tomorrow. Back to governors to tell them what we're doing to improve teaching then finally back to the office at last. Walked back and forth between these sessions past this plaque commemorating Roget (of thesaurus fame) who's a graduate. I remember when the thesaurus was a huge book at school and at home that had to be laboriously consulted, not just a tab on the word screen, and I never realised that Roget was a person ...the phrase 'Roget's thesaurus' was just said in a rush without thinking....can't believe he was not only real but was here in Edinburgh and is remembered on the wall of my office!
