Four Peaks Vista from Waihi Gorge
Tonight Mrs H accompanied me on a bit of a recce over the other side of the Orari and Waihi rivers, as we went inland from Geraldine up the Waihi Gorge.
It's a nice drive, passing through the village of Woodbury until the seal runs out as the road starts to wind pass the clear waters of the Waihi, running down from the distant hills. It's a very different landscape through here from just over the way in Peel Forest; it reminds me more of Banks Peninsula with its smooth hills and jutting rocks, populated with stands of Kanuka and Kowhai.
After rock hopping along the right side of the river below, taking photos of the crystal clear stream below the totara lined left bank, we then turned around and headed back towards the campground. Looking back the sun had just started to dip below the hills, bathing the tops of the Four Peaks - a group of mountains that lies to the southwest of Mount Peel's Tara Haoa range - in late evening sunlight.
I've made some motes of possible locations for astro shots over this way too. I'm hoping the surrounding hills and lowland bush will provide some interesting scenes.
