Maguey

The variety of  maguey plants that grow in the mountains are enormous, and many of them were flowering, shooting up stalks that we're guessing are 25 feet tall and topped by giant orange/red tufts. This is a cross section of the base of one of the "leaves" and it is at least 18 inches in diameter.
