A life in pictures...

Tumaini

For the uninitiated, Tumaini means 'hope' in Swahili. It is the name of a charity, started by a local doctor in Guernsey, who help widows and orphans in Kaghera in Tanzania. Two weeks ago, as part of their RE lesson, our Year 5 learned about the Parable of the Talents. Then they were each given £1 and asked to go home and come up with ideas as to how they could turn their £1 into more money for Tumaini. A week of cake sales, shoe shining, loom band sales and yet more cake sales followed. Today, the children presented their cheque to Alex, an orphan helped through school by Tumaini. They managed to turn their money into £1030!! Alex told the children they had raised enough money too send 200 children to secondary school in Tanzania - for five years each!! I am so proud of their efforts. I don't think there was a single teacher dry eyed in assembly this morning
