The Crown Hotel, Nantwich

Continuing our short tour of Cheshire, we spent the night in this delightful 16th Century hiotel.
It is a remarkable structure, timber framed, with lath and plaster construction, and it is hard to find any feature which is truly vertical or horizontal. Floors slope, windows are askew, and walls bulge and slope inwards and outwards.
Yet the building is warm and comfortable and a pleasure to visit.
This hotel which dates from 1589, actually replaced a predecessor which burnt down in a devastating fire in 1587 which detroyed most of the bulidings in Nantwich town.
