Angel's Trumpet

Brugmansia are woody trees, with pendulous flowers. Datura are bushes with erect flowers. All parts of both of them are poisonous, and both are called Angel's Trumpet. They are described as vespertine flowering plants, which I think is the most beautiful phrase. I would say the fragrance is not poisonous--it is heavenly. There is a large specimen just behind the deck on my old house, and the evenings were filled with its heavy perfume. But I didn't know about the up-facing/down-facing flower distinction til just a few minutes ago; I'd always used the names interchangeably. I still think they are crazy beautiful, whatever you call them.
