Water Trough

I was always told that this old  stone water trough was put there to provide free water for horses before they climbed up Lavender Hill !
 Today the only horses  that make the trip now are pulling the hearse for burials  at the cemetery near the top .The trough is now full of soil for plants and flowers .
I always enjoy reading the motto - it still applies .
