The Oldest Pub

I was up with the larks today, even well before the larks, as I had an appointment with the early bus to Glasgow. Having had a coffee before the bus left, and breakfast after it had gone, I had a bit of a wander around town.

In my meanderings I found myself back in the Green. The pub shown here was not open yet, at least I presume not, it was about 10:00 am when I was here. This claims to be the oldest pub in Aberdeen, and originates in 1741.

Another pub, not far away, Ma Cameron's also claims their snug bar is the oldest pub in Aberdeen though it does not give a precise date, but says it is a coaching inn dating back over 300 years.

To me the snug bar of Ma Cameron's looks older than the Old Kings Highway, it has a more old feel and look to it. I wonder if The Old Kings Highway has been here as long or longer, but perhaps this is not the original building. The name presumably refers to this being the main access road to medieval Aberdeen from the west.

The weather remained fine today with the temperature similar to yesterday at 8.5 degrees despite being very cold over night. It was 1.5 degrees when I first ventured out.
