General George Patton
This is a picture of a wax likeness of General George Patton. He attended VMI, the same military school that his dad graduated from. After VMI, George Patton went to West Point, where he eventually graduated. He served with the U.S. Cavalry before World War I on the Mexican Border where he fought against Poncho Villa. When World War I came along, Patton became an officer in the Tank Corps. With the invention of the tank, the day of the horse soldier was over. Tanks became the new cavalry, and Patton became an expert. By the end of the war he would be wounded in the leg and promoted. In World War II, he led his troops to victory in Sicily, and was given command of an army after D-Day. With his new army, he crushed the enemy and led the Allied powers to victory. Less than a year after the war, Patton would break his neck in a controversial car accident when his vehicle was hit in a head on collision. However, the driver of his car and the driver of the other car were barely injured. Patton would die soon after. My interest in General Patton first came to me when I watched the movie titled Patton. After looking into him a little more, I realized that we share the same birthday, which today is also celebrated by the entire United States as Veteran’s Day.
