If you can't beat them...

Black Hall Kendal

I had to be in Kendal today for meetings so I had little time for photography other than to take some quick shots on Stricklandgate.

Black Hall dates back to 1575 and was "modernised" in 1801.  The influence of that is probably showing in the shape and position of the upper windows.  The chimneys are round and typical of south Lakeland chimneys.  Originally the building was the Alderman's house.  In 1869 it became a brush factory and protruding from the wall above the door is the sign a carved hog with bristles down its back.  It can just be seen as a black blob on my shot.
