A Night at the Movies
I've suffered what can only be termed a disastrous day at work. Needed some space away from that, and the internet, and life in general, so took off to Bradford to catch the final showing of Whiplash at PictureHouses in the Media Museum. Whenever I go watch a film there, by far the best venue in all of Leeds and Bradford for a movie, I always have a chat with the charming Sue on the front desk, a talented lady who knows her films and is always good for a recommendation.
As for the film, it was utterly brilliant. The final set piece was so compelling that my whole body entered into the experience. It was incredibly physical. You could almost say orgasmic. Instead of just hearing the music, you saw it and felt it with your very being. It was one of the most extraordinary scenes I've ever witnessed inside a movie theatre. The cinematographic rendering of sound in such a dazzling visual way was nothing short of genius. Go catch it on the big screen if you can.
