Opononi
We did a little road trip with our friends G & J today. We drove through some beautiful bush and farm country to a charming little settlement called Opononi.
Opononi is famous for two things in my mind, in the 1950s the place came to prominence for a very friendly dolphin, nicknamed Opo, who took up residence in the bay and would allow the children to ride on his back. A lovely book was produced and l still have the copy l was given by my grandmother back then.
The second thing is when l was 21 l hitch hiked up north with a friend and we got stuck in Opononi and had to spend the night in the school bus shelter!
Anyhow, Opononi is pretty special and many thanks to G & J for the lovely lunch we had looking out on the scene you see.
