The Hang
My picture, called House, hangs in a group show called Home
as if a stray glance had happened into its own.
This glance, in fact, which got a runner-up prize. And my cousin, Slant, got the first prize! A delightful surprise for both of us. And a lovely night, with Pat, Dave, his son and friends Richard and Ollie. No matter that I waited nearly an hour for fish and chips in the Forty Foot and ended up in a rather serious conversation about the worst excesses of 20th century history. We talk and our talk finds its own currents, makes itself at home in roaming, passing, unsettling. A night to remember.
And earlier today, in between various little journeys and the school runs I managed to get the final proofs of my fourth book corrected and returned. Other shapes ('stains on the silence') that have made and found a home.
