Superstition
Statue of Sir Francis Powell stands in my home town park. Erected in 1910. It has long been a long-standing superstition that the rubbing of Powell's protruding shoe will bring a person good luck. Local belief in this tale is so strong that the bronze shoe of the statue is never allowed to turn green due to the constant rubbing mainly by local children. I remember rubbing the shoe when I was a child. It never worked for me :-((
