The Old Man and the Sea
OK, apologies to the man in this picture - he may not be that old, and I don't think he'd been at sea for days trying to catch the biggest tuna to be found this side of the channel.
Oh what a good book that was - Hemmingway was such an entertaining writer. What a boring book that was. I can only just remember the skeleton of it now, having read it for homework in about 1970. I doubt it has improved with age. I know I haven't:)
Hot and sunny again today, so on my way home, I stopped briefly at Martello Bay (no not Montego Bay) and took a few snaps of this fishing boat being retrieved from the sea.
The place was infested with blackfly, which must have all hatched at the same time. I walked maybe 150m and my beige trousers had turned black with thousands of the little blighters clinging on for the ride. If I'd known exactly where they'd come from, I would have taken them straight back. I had to put my reading glasses on so I could make some headway with my eyes open! Hopefully they've taken a wrong turn and been carried out to sea.
