A Masked Ball. Leitz Summicron 50mm. DR

This week is Carnivale in Venice so I thought I'd share our family of masks brought over many years from there.  Each one is the work of a different artist working in a miniscule and dark studio on some caleta.  The cloth on which they hang is another Venetian specialty: very plush, iridescent handmade velvet. Although the scene is lit with tungsten light, I intentionally used a daylight setting to accentuate the warm tones of gold leaf, paint and velvet.
