School of Veterinary Medicine .......
University of Pennsylvania.
Well, we made it through the night ....... barely! (See yesterday's blip.)
Or at least we thought we did! As we went to flush Zazu's urinary catheter we noticed that the saline was coming out of the little red tube. The red tube that was supposed to be in Zazu!!! Somehow, even with me watching him throughout the night, he had pulled it out! Brat!
Since we had a long journey to make to Philadelphia I didn't what him to be uncomfortable or in any pain. So I quickly called our vet office to see what we should do. At first they told us to come over so they could possibly replace it. Then they called back and said it wasn't necessary ..... he should be okay without it. And he was.
He was very good on the way down to Philadelphia ....... about an hour and a half drive. He slept peacefully in his carrier.
To make a long story short (there was a lot of waiting on our part whilst they did all their tests) they gave us several options to consider. One of which was surgery and several days recovery at their hospital (at a cost of $7,000!). We have opted to bring him home and manage his care with medicine and TLC. While he is certainly not out of the woods yet, he is doing remarkably well.
While at U of Penn they pulled all his catheters. He was an angel coming home and again slept in his carrier all the way home.
When we arrived home and took him out of the carrier he was like a different cat from last night. He was so happy to be home without being restricted and without those caths! It was a long day, but I am so glad we are all home again! Especially Zazu!
I took this picture while we were enjoying a nice hot cuppa Moroccan Mint tea.
