Mono Monday - Bridge
Pegasus is a newly developed town in North Canterbury with developing started in 2006 and all major infrastructure works completed by 2012. It is anticipated it will be a town for up to 6000 people. The lake has sandy and pebble beaches, large waterfall and a recreational equipment hire facility. Some of the uses undertaken on the lake are triathlons, sailing, dragon boat racing and training.
Lake Pegasus suspension bridge is a pedestrian swing bridge creating access over the lake to the island. The bridge was designed to span 50 metres, weighs 30 tonnes and is anchored by a 500 tonne underground load; it was designed to withstand an unlimited pedestrian loading. The physical construction of the bridge was done using industrial rope access in coordination with a 200 tonne mobile crane to manoeuvre equipment. The contract was undertaken by Solutions 2 Access and was completed in August 2009.
Today the bridge sits against a vibrant blue sky with white puffy clouds drifting through. The light vignette has helped to enhance the lines and curves of the bridge which were lost against the sky and dark shadows of the surrounding native plants in the foreground.
