Bladud's dreaming wings
Bladud is considered by some as the founder of Bath, he allegedly discovered a cure for swine fever using the spa waters.
He also practised necromancy, communicating with dead spirits who inspired him to build a pair of wings to attach to his arms, whilst doing this he jumped to his death.
Such ideas are still pursued in Ilfracombe North Devon at the annual "Birdman" event when crazy, adventurous souls strapped to various paraphernalia jump off the pier only to land in the harbour waters. Some travel further than others!
These wings I spotted in a tiny alcove beside steps from the Victoria Pedestrian Bridge down to the river.
