Yellow heralds the Spring
Winter Aconites. The Latin name is Eranthis hyemalis. This comes from the Greek: Er means Spring and Anthis means flower. Hyemalis means belonging to winter.
We have had trouble growing them at the Knottman house. After a couple of years they decide not to come up again. This must be because we do not have a bank or lawn facing south.
The splendid display above is in the grounds of a hotel on the outskirts of Kendal.
