Feather on the line

Had Ozzy out for a run this morning, we were going down a narrow farm track that was fenced off at both sides.

There were two men standing talking with 4 dogs, 2 Cockapoos, 1 Springer and 1 Deerhound. All on the lead and minding their own.

I ran past them and shouted to Ozzy to follow on, but he wouldn't pass them and started backing off and running back the way we came.

He kept stopping and looking towards us when I shouted on him, but then he'd take off again in the opposite direction.

He kept running further and further back the way we'd come.

By this point the man with the Deerhound and Springer had walked on past me and it was just the two Cockapoos that were left, but Ozzy just wouldn't come back.

He ran that far back that he was now out of sight over the brow of a hillock, so I had to run back up the track to get him.

He was obviously spooked and don't know where he thought he was going to go, but it was quite worrying that he didn't seem to mind getting further and further away, to the point he couldn't see me anymore.

Anyway when he was still out of sight I shouted at him to 'stay' and he was waiting for me just over the brow, I called him over to me and he came.

I'm not sure if it was the large Deerhound that he was unsure of, or what, but I got him on the lead and purposely ran him past all the dogs to show him there was nothing to fear.

I'm hoping he'll not do that again.
