weirs

River Gryfe in the village of Bridge of Weir. There are about 4 weirs in view all pretty dilapidated. The river and its banks show the derelict signs of former use of water power for cotton mills then leather works along the banks throughout  the village. There is still "Bridge of Weir Leather Works" on the River Locher above the village making very high quality products marketed worldwide. Water here is very soft off the basalt rocks and local people have generations of skill
I was standing on the old railway viaduct now part of National Cycle Route 75. This railway from Elderslie to Kilmacolm was only  closed in 1982
