Henry part two
Early in January, Edinburgh was buffeted by really strong winds, so I brought Henry our plastic heron indoors to stop him from taking flight! The winds have subsided now, and his warmer blooded cousins are around, so I have taken him back into the garden.
He has now resumed his task of standing guard by the side of the pond and discouraging other herons from fishing. A few years ago, I admired the heron on the garage roof. It is considered lucky in many countries to have a heron on the roof...... What I failed to realise was that the heron had completely emptied our pond of fish. As they are solitary birds, having a heron, even a plastic one, at the pond means others stay away so now my fish flourish.
