History on the hoardings

There are a lot of hoardings on campus as buildings are repaired or opportunities taken to use UC's earthquake insurance pay outs to equip campus for the 21st century.

The buildings around this building uses photos to depict the history from 1873, when it was known as Canterbury College through to present day.

Anyone can submit a high resolution image they'd like to add to the montage. It's a fantastic result and a clever idea.

I guess you could call it 'pimp my hoarding' ;-)

(And no, I don't appear in any images showing my wayward student days '-)

This building was built in the 1990s and like many of its era, due to a relaxing of building standards didn't do well in the earthquakes. Some of the issues included stairwells coming away from the structure and the complexity of two separate buildings comprising one.

Engineering techniques have improved since the earthquakes and this building can be repaired rather than demolished. And no, it's not just wishful thinking, it can be remediated and brought up to 100% of the current building code.

Good stuff.
