By the side of the Doune to Bridge of Allan Road, an impressive statue in honour of Sir David Stirling, mountaineer and founder of the SAS.

It being the era of Google and Wikipedia, it is possible to temper one's newly acquired knowledge with the information that in the mid to late 1970s, and funded by James Goldsmith, Stirling ran a secret organisation which worked to undermine trade unions from within.
