Arriving at the Ca Maria Adele in our water taxi was as good as it gets, the beauteous Saint Maria overlooking this wonderful boutique hotel that nestles quietly by still, jade waters.

The experience starts the moment you stop off on to the hotels jetty, it's very existence not announced anywhere and telling you everything you need to know. Into the cool reception with its gentle colours and then into the dark and sensual lounge, it's brushed velvet inviting you to feel this fine City.

We stayed in a suite at the top with a balcony that was just a perfect place to rest weary legs. It was less decorated than the downstairs but very pretty in its damask and textured walls and ornate wood carvings.

The dining room on the first floor and overlooking the canal and church was just incredible, a huge chandelier sitting impressively over its eating guests.

The food and service was impeccable.

If you're in Venice, you must stay here!
