The old branch line

This photo looks a bit like Tuesdays but with less sun. It is part of an abandoned railway line, supposedly a path but more like a river at the moment. Good job I was in wellies.

Previously the Westerham Valley Branch Line for the 5 miles from Westerham to Dunton Green where passengers could change onto the London line. It opened in 1881, closed in 1961 and then became the  the subject of several attempts to revive it to be run by volunteers as a commuter/heritage railway, and then as a cycle path.  In the end British Rail sold most of it to Kent County Council so that the M25 could be built over it.   Just a mile remains;  adopted into the footpath network by local walkers .
