The mallard duck has a lovely blue patch of feathers on its wing called the speculum.
Usually this patch is tucked out of sight when the ducks are not in flight.
Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of it on the male mallard at rest, but it is rare to see a female flashing hers.
To be fair, this female was just settling down after a splashy landing.
