A DIFFERENT TIME
Today's lesson: Take a different trail, see something new. Take the same trail at a different time, see something new.
I don't often get to go to Newport in the dark. (Grandma is a sleeper inner) But I did this morning, and I saw lots of new stuff. The sunrise and fog over the bay were stunning. Got lots of great shots, but I picked this one, because it is simple. I often am drawn to the simple one.
As the dogs and I walked out the jetty, I noticed a lot of Sea Lions coming in from the sea. I usually just see them laying around. So I figured that they had gone out to feed during the night. I was wrong. As we were walking back in, I noticed large groups of them thrashing around near the rocks right below me. Then I saw the Herring leaping and bouncing off the rocks. They apparently herd the schools of Herring up against the jetty, and then come up at them from below. What a sight. And it happened over and over. And then the Pelicans joined in, diving for the ones that got missed. I was running back and forth on the jetty, shooting pictures. I never got a good one of the Sea Lions, the fish and the Pelicans all in one, but I gave it a good try. As I took a short break, I saw that the dogs had joined in too. They were racing back and forth, fallowing the splashing sounds.
All five of us were just part of a big dancing show on the jetty.
This was just a small part of a great big day. I am tired, but by God I am alive!
