County cricket on a perfect summer's day

We returned from our long weekend break in Tuscany last night and for the first time ever woke up the next morning to considerably hotter sunnier conditions than we had left behind.

This was particularly welcome because we had booked ourselves an extra day off work to recover from a late night back, with a view to spending the day watching county cricket at Northampton. It turned out to be a perfect day for relaxing and watching the cricket.

We quite often go to Northampton for the cricket, Geraldine being a life-long fan and member, and happily for us, Northants played particularly well today. Middlebrook, who at this point as you can see from the scoreboard was on 20 runs, went on to make a fine century.

I like this view because it is the only remaining part of the ground where there is no spectator stand in the background. With those beautiful trees in early summer foliage it almost has the feel of a traditional village cricket scene - at least it would do if I air-brushed out the massive new floodlight pylon :-)
