4 Years On . . . . .
. . . . . . since the biggest and most devastating of the Christchurch earthquakes hit, on 22 February 2011. There were many memorials all around the city today, with people attending services, throwing flowers in the Avon River, meeting together and reminiscing, and even putting flowers in road cones. Yes, all over the city, there are flowers in the road cones. It's become a tradition.
I did manage to visit a neighbour for a cuppa and we chatted away about what we'd been doing on the day when it struck at 12.51pm and what we'd had to do for the rest of the day. We were amongst the lucky ones and didn't have to cope with death and terrible injuries.
I only managed to get as far as Cave Rock and the Signal Station - haven't been 100% for a few days - so I thought that this image would represent Christchurch's Quake Day for me. There's the battered, damaged and broken Signal Station on top of Cave Rock, with a young woman and her 2 little babies in a pram, over by the rocks. Even the man visiting the Signal Station represents what we've all been doing. New life - that's what we're all needing, in all its myriad forms.
