Olde
What better way to spend a warm Sunday morning than poking around in the replica of Captain Cook's ship, Endeavour.* It's been carefully and attentively built, to be as accurate to the original as possible. There were lots of volunteers ready to tell us all about life at sea and the adventures of those who sailed upon this ship.
It's hard to imagine the cramped life without being out in the middle of the ocean, but the sight of the Endeavour next to the Windeward Bound in the Hobart harbour was reminiscent of the old colonial paintings of this area, when the wharves were ramshackle and the waterline more natural. This is probably as close to time travel as we'll ever get. It's a pretty good alternative.
*It's been pointed out that he was actually only a Lieutenant on the first of his voyages. My bad ;)
